Rosa de Jong
Amsterdam based artist, Rosa de Jong, constructs worlds inside small glass test tubes each complete with micro-sized buildings, tiny trees, and other miniscule structures. Similar to a ship in a bottle, her tiny worlds are handcrafted from an eclectic mix of materials such as paper, cardboard, tree branches and moss found from all over the world including sand from Monument Valley and rocks from the Carribbean.
“My inspiration for this project came when I became aware of the fact that if I look at art, illustrations, drawings - anything creative, I really like it if there's ‘space' inside, another dimension. Instead of thinking, you get to be inside for a moment. This makes looking at it a little bit like meditation." -Rosa de Jong
