capabilities of color in the medium of glass, transforming a static experience into a visceral encounter
with color and light.
The 2023 Mojave Macchia Studio Edition is a classic example of the driving force behind Chihuly’s
original vision for the Macchia: “unbelievable combinations of color.” A constellation of multicolored
speckles emblazes the rich violet exterior of the sculpture, while an oxblood red body wrap provides
faint yet profound contrast and depth. Glass and color, stretched thin by heat, breath, and centrifugal
force, create glimmers of illumination from the brilliant marigold interior, and the form’s organic
undulations are defined by the moss green lip wrap.
