Composed of forms evoking the cellular to the geologic, the work “How Long” is an exploration
of process in mark making, and mark obscuring. The painting combines direct painting and
mono typing techniques. This painting began in the summer of 2024, and took shape in the fall
of the same year, adopting a narrative that fluctuated between references to duress of war and
reconstruction of the natural landscape. As such, “How Long” works among my visual laments
as both a symbol of loss and hope, around a material dwelling place realized in fleeting
glimpses.
