“Elapsed Retreat illustrates the different avenues that someone has been confronted with over time. The key dangling from each doorknob represents paths that have been taken, while the doorknob with no key is an opportunity passed by. The doorplates are heavily decorated, just as past memories are often heavily embellished and treasured. There is no key hole, because there is no access to that time or exact truth. The keys are foggy, clear glass – they represent what we do remember from that passageway. The lace is strong but also references delicate ties to the past.” – Jennifer Halvorson, 2018
