Rachel Campbell

Overview

Artist Rachel Campbell draws inspiration from her surroundings, considering what once was with empathic detail. Utilizing vibrant colors, the artist captures quiet and at times intimate depictions of commonplace landscapes and interiors. Campbell is fascinated by the ephemeral, often documenting places she has visited herself.

Campbell is originally from New Zealand and has been living in the USA since 2003.

Her work is in private and public collections in over a dozen countries.

“Most importantly of all, my moments are playful. I am influenced by artists who invoke playfulness as a core tenet within their aesthetics—Henri Matisse, Paul Klee, David Hockney, Laura Owens, and Jonas Wood. But real play does not come easily. I conjure play from the cracks of a world that can be hard and even abusive. Such play is supremely important. It grounds our joys and our hopes.” – Rachel Campbell
