Artist Talk and Reception with John L. Cleaveland, Jr.

The Nature of the Boy - Landscapes From the Childhood of Jimmy Carter
October 13, 2025
Please join us for a Reception and Artist Talk with landscape painter, John L. Cleaveland, Jr., on Thursday, October 23rd, from 5-7pm. Meet the artist and enjoy some refreshments from 5-6pm, with a presentation from the artist on his current exhibition, The Nature of the Man - Landscapes from the Childhood of Jimmy Carter, beginning at 6pm.

"The Nature of the Man: Landscapes from the Childhood of Jimmy Carter" by John L. Cleaveland, Jr. is inspired by Carter’s memoir An Hour Before Daylight. Rich and narrative paintings of places that were part of the visual world of Jimmy Carter’s childhood in rural Sumter County, Georgia are presented in this fall solo show, bringing the viewer to places that were part of the environment that shaped Carter’s childhood and tied his roots to the land – land that became the foundation for a way of life.

This exhibition was originally installed at the Carter Presidential Library in celebration of Jimmy Carter's Centennial Birthday and displayed through May 2025. Momentum Gallery is honored to present the exhibition and share such profoundly contemplative works in our downtown Asheville, North Carolina, art gallery.
All are welcome. This event is open to the public and free of charge. Please join us.
