John Dodd

Overview
For more than thirty-five years, John Dodd has been self-employed designing and creating handmade custom furniture, using wood as the primary material, often accented with metal, concrete and glass. Never building from static plans, his furniture begins with a concept doodle, then develops into a rendering which often evolves into a scaled model for refinements in proportion and form. From there, the process and materials inform the design of his pieces, which often evoke the aesthetic of a contemporary, Post-Modern take on Craftsman style.

"My furniture does not try to define the difference between art and craft… it exists quietly between the two. I design furniture which simply and elegantly performs its function. Fulfillment for me as a furniture designer comes from creating functional objects that enhance the rituals of everyday life, hopefully for a lifetime." - John Dodd
