Maltby Sykes (1911–1992)


Maltby Sykes (1911-1992) is most well known as a printmaker who advanced the artistic technique and cultural status of works on paper. He trained with John Sloan in New York, Diego Rivera in Mexico, and Andre Lhote and Fernand Léger in Paris. Prints by Sykes are in major museum collections including The Museum of Modern Art, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Momentum Gallery presents the work of Maltby Sykes in cooperation with Carlisle Gallery in Auburn, Alabama. Sykes was Professor Emeritus at Auburn University at the time of his death. All works are signed or stamped from the artist's estate.
